Semester One

Some of my Activities from the past year

these tape drawings were the start of something magical for me. They allowed me to experiment in all directions.

Throughout the year I keep going back to the lines, the marks created. whether that be through tape, or drawing, photography or simply going to the games at Murryfield or Alloway/ Mayfield. Tape allowed me to look at size, scale, colour, and composition. The main inspiration was an aim, to take the spirit of the game and place it in different locations. The was my first time considering the game as a spirit, vibe, an idea. This lead onto more critical work about religion, secular or not, and sports.

One of the religious pathways I went down was candles. I wanted to create a realistic representation of the sport. By using one of my old boots, I cast it in a substance called vinamold. This created an exact replica of my boot which I was then able to fill with wax. I used a high melt performance wax which is soy and mineral blend. I also used a blue dye and a mint and euculptus scent trying to replicate the smell of heat rub. I only did one cast before I gave the mold back to the bin in ceramics. I couldnt handle to smell or feel of it. I wanted to follow through with it but alas, this was something I just couldnt handle.

here are a few selections of drawings I did to try and figure out what I was doing. I use a mixture of traditional and digital work to process my thoughts. while these didnt lead anywhere towards the end outcome, I feel they were important to figuring out my use of repetition, colour choices, and use of ball.

a mixture of my own photography, drone/ camera/ phone, and photography from the clubs photographer Martin. These photgraphs are some of the main sources of inspiration for the marks I make towards the degreeshow and the shapes I use in ceramics

as part of the process to organising my direction I did a fair bit of painting and drawing. While I might put some of them into the show, its unlikely- although this did push me futher towards the ball shape and limiting my colour palette.

Although these are in my physical handin, I feel it is important to put them here as they contain some of my most critical thinking.

a fair bit of my work is ephemiral. small set ups, quickly photographed, and then dismantled to move onto the next idea.

these are just more examples of how quickly I move between ideas. you can see how I started to move my ideas into 3D form, and how my line work moved into these ceramic pieces.

these are from my Mid Year Show. Preperation, creation of piece, the stages I went through.
